I recently had the opportunity to work with Nuala at NBC Access to Literacy, who provided training on the use of social/situational stories. The techniques imparted were not only insightful but also immediately applicable in a school setting. As an educator, I found the integration of these methods into our lesson plans to be seamless. The students, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of any pedagogical tool, have shown remarkable improvement in their understanding of the situations that they otherwise found difficult. I have worked alongside Nuala while supporting an individual with Autism for the past two years. I was delighted that the individual was successful in obtaining a place on the course as I felt it would help her socially and get some educational benefits while attending. However, it became a lot more than that. The difference in her skills socially was tremendous, but the improvement in communication and conversation was of huge benefit to her in every aspect of her life. What she has taken from this course is confidence, self respect as an adult learner, independence, new practical skills, improved communication and vocabulary and last but not least some great socialising and friendships. It has been such a pleasure watching her grow forthe duration of her time under Nuala’s guidance.
